FDA testing reveals lead in lipstick

February 15, 2012

A study by the Food and Drug Administration found 400 shades of lipstick on the market tested positive for lead.

Five L'Oreal and Maybelline lipsticks were among the most contaminated.

The worst offender was Maybelline Color Sensational Pink Petal.

Two Cover Girl and two NARS lipsticks also were in the top 10, along with one made by Stargazer.

The FDA says the trace amounts of lead detected do not pose safety risks.

The campaign for safe cosmetics wants the government to set limits for lead levels in lipstick.
