Walsh Construction was working in the area near New Thornton Reservoir when a compressor caught fire inside the tunnel, according to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District. The contractors were not able to put the fire out, so they called the fire department for help.
All individuals were evacuated and no injuries were reported.
Firefighters from the South Holland Fire Department responded to several locations -- but the closest point appear to have been the Lincoln Oasis access point near Thornton Quarry.
