They say as many as 85 percent of UTIs are caused by e. coli. That's according to the March issue of Emerging Infectious Diseases.
Scientists believe chicken may be a reservoir for e. coli that causes infections like UTIs. They are also concerned overuse of antibiotics in chickens is leading to drug-resistant bugs that spread to humans.
Their advice? Good food hygiene, good home hygiene and thorough cooking also helps kill disease-causing bugs.
