Friday marks ninth anniversary of E2 tragedy

In 2003, police estimate more than 1,000 people were in the club when a fight broke out and a security guard used pepper spray.

That triggered a stampede as people tried to rush out of the lone stairway. The people who died were crushed to death.

The club's former owners, Dwain Kyles and Calvin Hollins were later sentenced to two years in prison for violating court orders to close the second floor of the building. But last year, those convictions were overturned.
