Spirit of Joffrey celebrated in film

February 18, 2012 (CHICAGO)

The world-acclaimed company was founded by Robert Joffrey and Gerald Arpino and became a trailblazing troupe, known for blending classical ballet with modern movement and music of all kinds.

The dancers are from diverse backgrounds and express an American spirit of freedom. After fame and success, the Joffrey fell on hard times, and nearly disappeared.

But it rose again and is flourishing in Chicago on State Street.

You can see "Joffrey: Mavericks of American Dance" at the Siskel Center at 8 p.m. and again next Wednesday night.

Director Bob Hercules and dancers from the film will be there both nights to take questions from the audience.
