It happened early this morning in DeKalb near the campus of Northern Illinois University. Firefighters say all three passengers were pinned inside the car.
Police identify the man who was killed as 21-year old Felipe Hernandez Palmeros of DeKalb. He was the driver.
One passenger was flown to St. Anthony's Hospital in Rockford; the other was treated and released.
Police say the men were not NIU students.
While the cause of the crash is being investigated, police say they did find open containers of alcohol inside the car.
