LaCorbek Benion is charged with first degree murder in connection with the November 2009 death of John Keyes III. A June 4 trial date has been set for Benion. His mother, Timera Branch, was sentenced to 34 years in prison last fall.
Prosecutors say Benion used a bat to strike Keyes as he lay on the ground.
If convicted, Benion faces 20 to 60 years in prison.
