CPD cracking down human trafficking

February 22, 2012 (CHICAGO)

Human trafficking is the practice of forced labor and is commonly seen in the form of prostitution.

Illinois is considered a major hub for human trafficking. The FBI has designated Chicago as one of the top 13 cities for child prostitution.

"There are several reasons that sort of create a perfect storm here in Chicago, one being that we are a major tourism destination, a convention destination, we're a major transportation hub in the country, and it's just a very centrally located spot," said Jennifer Greene of the Cook County state's attorney's office.

Human trafficking ranks as the second largest criminal industry globally. It is second only to drug smuggling.
