The Museum of Science and Industry's new Virtual Heart app can get a heart pumping in a whole new way for American Heart Month.

Available now for free in the iTunes App Store, the Virtual Heart was designed for the iPad in collaboration with the museum's 13-foot Giant Heart in YOU! The Experience exhibit. The 15,000-square-foot permanent exhibit at MSI explores what it means to live a healthy and vital life in the twenty-first century.

The Virtual Heart app features the same realistic visual elements as the exhibit such as: exploring multiple views of the human heart, external and internal views that depict the heart's valves, blood flow and the electrical system. Users can interact with the app and listen to it constantly beating, changing the beat per minute if they choose.

"The Virtual Heart app is a fun and easy tool for teachers, parents and kids," said Steven Beasley, MSI's director of digital media. "Today, apps like this are great for reaching new audiences outside the Museum's walls and creating one-of-a-kind science learning experiences that can happen anytime."

Access the Virtual Heart app at the iTunes App Store.
