Local man helping Indiana tornado victims

March 4, 2012 (ADDISON, Ill.)

Tim Hetzner of Lutheran Church Charities travelled to Harrisburg, Ill. this week.

Hetzner's organization works to provide housing and comfort to displaced people.

He is now in southern Indiana and expects to send his organization's comfort dogs to help victims cope with their loss.

"When people pet a dog, they relax," he said. "Their blood pressure goes down, we know that medically, and when that happens, they're more attuned to share what they've been through."

Hetzner says Lutheran Church Charities helps disaster victims as long as they need it and that can mean weeks, months, sometimes even years.
