Former Ind. cop enters plea in wife's suicide

March 10, 2012 (JASPER, Ind.)

John Britton pleaded guilty to felony criminal recklessness Friday in Dubois Circuit Court in Jasper. The case was moved from Corydon last year due to pretrial publicity.

The Courier-Journal of Louisville, Ky., reports Britton could face six months to three years in prison if the judge accepts the deal, instead of the two to eight years he might have served if found guilty of assisting a suicide.

Prosecutors say Britton gave his wife Christine his handgun and told her to go ahead after she threatened to kill herself. Britton allegedly told prosecutors he didn't expect her to actually shoot herself.
