Palatine wildfire burns for hours in forest preserve

March 11, 2012 (CHICAGO)

The flames ignited Saturday afternoon in the Grove Forest Preserve near Lake Cook and Rand Road.

Fire departments responded and made a line of protection for nearby homes and businesses. Hours later, the fire was extinguished fully at approximately 10 p.m.

According to fire officials, a tossed cigarette started the blaze.

No homes or businesses were damaged, and no one was hurt.
