ADHD diagnosis rates rise dramatically over decade

New research by Northwestern University in Chicago indicates the number of children receiving a diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorders has risen by 66 percent over the last decade.

This study also found that more children are being treated for ADHD by child psychiatrists than by pediatricians.

Authors of the study don't think there has suddenly been a dramatic rise in the number of children with ADHD, but instead believe public awareness campaigns, media coverage of ADHD and advertisements for new medications are probably some of the driving factors behind the rise.
