The race began at 8:30 .m. at Grant Park and went through downtown. Runners ended at a post-race party at Buckingham Fountain.
ABC7 caught up with the male and female winners who have both *never* taken part in this race before
"It was awesome, you know, running in Chicago," said men's winner Abdelazziz Atmani, who finished in 23:18. "The crowd is awesome, you know, running against Abdi Abdirahman, one of the best runners in the U.S. it's pretty good."
"I thought I was going to get third and I was just holding on feeling sorry for myself and coming around the final turn at the last mile, the crowd was so loud, and I just got this surge of energy and made it," said Julia Lucas, who finished in 25:23.
This is the 33rd year for the shamrock shuffle.
Both winners say they would like to come back and run again next year.
