Possible delays on Red Line after smoke reported at Grand

March 26, 2012 (CHICAGO)

The smoke was reported at approximately 8 a.m., and power was shut down for both northbound and southbound trains temporarily, said CTA spokesman Steve Mayberry, adding that passengers were evacuated from the station.

Red Line subway trains, however, were operating normally by 8:30 a.m. after being rerouted to the elevated tracks between Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown.

Mayberry said firefighters were at the station, but it was not yet clear what caused the smoke.
