Palm Sunday celebrated across Chicago

April 1, 2012 (CHICAGO)

This is the first Easter they've been able to celebrate in the newly renovated church and chapel after a fire in 2010.

Sunday morning, they re-enacted the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, marking the beginning of Holy Week.

At Holy Name Cathedral, it was a packed house.

Francis Cardinal George blessed the palms outside and parishioners then followed into the cathedral for Mass.

His message was that of peace.

"We can take stock of who we are and the kind of tranquility and enables us to see the future more Clearly," Cardinal George said. "Sometimes we're so busy and there is a lot of noise. Be quiet."

This was a special holy day for Bob Domanski and his family. It's their first visit to Holy Name, and the first time they heard Mass with Cardinal George.

"The Cardinal's delivery was excellent," Domanski said. "It really touched home for an hour and half and the Easter vigil is a thing in itself."

Holy Week ends next Sunday with Easter.
