Cancer patients getting right amount of chemotherapy?

Are cancer patients getting the right amount of chemotherapy? A new study suggests there might be a better way to determine the best dosage.

Chemotherapy uses powerful chemicals to kill cancer cells in the body. And the doses are most often determined by a patients weight.

Now, a study in the Journal of Clinical Oncology suggests using a patient's actual body weight instead of ideal body weight in calculating doses.

The suggested change is in response to the growing number of obese cancer patients.

While some oncologists may be uncomfortable with higher doses, researchers say their new guidelines are appropriate for overweight patients.
