Osteoporosis drugs may lead to eye trouble

Scientists say first time users of certain osteoporosis drugs may be at increased risk for serious inflammatory eye disease.

The most commonly prescribed of these drugs are Fosamax and Actonel.

Previous studies have linked the drugs to problems such as unusual fractures, irregular heartbeat and esophageal and colon cancer.

Authors of the study in the journal CMAJ say doctors need to inform their patients about the signs and symptoms.
