More than 100 firefighters battle Robbins blaze

April 3, 2012 (ROBBINS, Ill.)

The massive flames spread quickly to a nearby field about 300 feet long.

Tanker trucks were brought in to control the fire, which took nearly four hours to extinguish.

Investigators think it started in a pile of tires and car rims. Heavy smoke blanketed the area.

"We did receive some calls for possible exposure from residents. Other units are checking it out for us. No injuries. No fatalities at this time," said Robbins Fire Dept. Deputy Chief Nick Malley.
