Our own celebrity Party Planner and now new author, Debi Lilly of A Perfect Event, has four fast and easy steps to planning an "egg-stra" special grocery to gorgeous Easter celebration this Sunday.
In her new book, A Perfect Event, launched this week on amazon, she open up her little black book of party planning and stylist secrets - sharing thirty amazing, real parties with do it yourself step by step decor projects, chef recipes made grocery store easy, all of her go to sources, and more so you can spend more time celebrating with your friends and family.
Today, we've set an Easter table for an easy, effortless meal filled with décor and food trends - and all are very affordable - just like we do within the pages of our new book - for you to share with family, friends, and neighbors alike.
Step 1: Table in Bloom
Unplug the kids from tv and ipads and gather 'round the table to design gorgeous Easter decor together as a family.
With just 3 ingredients: glass vases, spring flowering bulbs and plants and sheet moss (available in floral shops and craft stores), you can create an affordable, long lasting floral collection.
In 3 easy steps:
1. remove plants from plastic pots
2. wrap roots/soil with sheet moss
3. place inside glass vase
You have a lovely, seasonal spring centerpiece that will last for weeks, even months. My stylist secret - layer in vases with floating candles, these are my new Dahlia candles from Debi Lilly Design, at Safeway/Dominick's, and votive candles for the finishing touch.
Step 2: Set a colorful Table
Next, set the table with a colorful linen, runner, ribbon runner layered ontop...bright plates, glasses, napkins, so that everything you need during the meal is right at your fingertips. Once you and your guests sit at the table - a party planning tip: follow this trick and you never have to get up until you are finished with the meal.
Step 3: A Beautiful Brunch
A fresh, healthy, fast Easter menu ideas have never been easier:
Set the table family style with everything that you need, for an effortless, relaxing meal together.
My favorite trick - create an edible centerpiece around the flowers with a tray for drinks, and cake stands, platters (if you don't own cakes stands use plates ontop upside down bowls) so all the food is within reach.
On a colorful try set glasses, and fill with my favorite spring cocktail: Sorbet Floats - mixing sorbet with all natural Izze soda for the kids - and an extra festive splash of Prosecco for the adults. You can make colors coordinate to the table and floral décor, and pass glasses around the table easily.
Next - how easy a menu is healthy, whole wheat frozen waffles with grilled chicken and all natural maple syrup for a "healthy" take on chicken and waffles? Or frozen potato pancakes, topped with organic scrambled eggs, all natural sausage, with a hint of veg? Better yet - breakfast skewars, with sundried tomato sausage, pineapple and sweet peppers grilled for a delicious salty/sweet combination. And my favorite - crudité shots - all natural dressing from the organic produce aisle with carrot, pepper, asparagus, snap peas?even the kids love these.
And for the perfect ending - dessert is at your fingertips - with darling tiny cakes from Swirlz Cupcakes, and painted egg cookies from Julius Meinl - our favorite neighbors in Lincoln Park/Lakeview, plus grocery to gorgeous strawberry whoopee pies using icing and sugar cookies from the bakery, an old fashioned strawberry cream cake using all natural cake mix, whip cream, and fresh strawberries, and beautiful easter bunnies and eggs tucked everywhere possible.
