Study compares fast-food salt across 6 countries

April 17, 2012 (WASHINGTON)

A study comparing the salt levels of six different fast food chains in six countries says McDonald's chicken McNuggets in the U.S. had nearly three times the salt of those sold in the United Kingdom.

Canada had the saltiest salads, and New Zealand had the saltiest Big Macs.

The study was published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal.

Current guidelines recommend that most healthy adults consume less than 2,300 milligrams of sodium each day, however, the average American consumes nearly 3,500 milligrams each day.
