Chicago boy, 15, undergoes double transplant

April 24, 2012 (CHICAGO)

Thomas Castillo was born with a congenital heart defect and had liver failure, and while waiting for a heart transplant, he suffered a stroke.

Then with time running out doctors found a donor for both the heart and liver.

It's believed to be only the 10th time in this country that a heart-liver double transplant has been done on a child under 17.

Thomas is looking forward to going back to school and playing football.

When he grows up he wants to be a heart surgeon.
