Porter Stone, 5, was being treated at a children's hospital in St. Louis Tuesday when police say his father took the boy without permission from the boy's mother, who has custody.
St. Louis police say Illinois authorities found the child with his father Jeffery Stone, 33, of Grand Prairie, Texas, his paternal grandmother Rhonda Marie Matthews, 59, of Hercules, California, and his aunt Heather Minton, 37, of Chico, California. They were taken into custody in Alsip early Wednesday charged with kidnapping, interfering with custody and endangering the welfare of a child. Another 4-year-old child with them is in protective custody.
The three were scheduled to appear in court Thursday and are being held on a $1 million bond. They face extradition.
Tiffany Stone was at O'Hare Airport Wednesday night excited to be reunited with son, Porter.
They were reunited at Hope Children's Hospital in Oak Lawn and left for Missouri Thursday.
"Just fear, real like fear," Tiffany Stone said, describing her feelings. "I knew that he didn't have his meds, and I didn't know when I was going to see him again so, it was just fear."
The abduction sparked a nationwide Amber Alert and early Wednesday, Alsip police got a tip. Officers located the car they were looking for at the Baymont Hotel.
When Porter went missing, he had a day's worth of medication in his backpack.
"The boy appeared unharmed for his condition," said Scott Zablotny of the Alsip Police Department.
Police also took a four year-old girl into protective custody.
It was the end of a long ordeal for Tiffany Stone.
"I talked to him, he's good," she said. "He's just playing games, hanging out, waiting for me to get there. So, he's good."
