Deadly wrong-way crash closes inbound Bishop Ford

April 30, 2012 (CHICAGO) According to Illinois State Police, the accident happened around 4:30 a.m. near 115th Street. The wrong-way driver was heading southbound in the northbound lanes.

Once emergency crews arrived they found a victim trapped in each car and had to use the jaws of life to get them out.

One of the victims did not survive the crash. The extent of the other victim's injuries were not known immediately.

Authorities closed all lanes of the inbound lanes on the Bishop, as a result of the crash. ABC7 traffic anchor Roz Varon said heading in from the south was being detoured off the expressway at 130th Street, but cars already north of that exit at the time of the crash were getting stuck.

Drivers are advised to avoid the Bishop Ford, if at all possible.

Illinois State Police were at the scene conducting their investigation.
