Daily bridge lifts begin

May 2, 2012 5:53:18 AM PDT
The spring bridge lift season over the Chicago River begins today.

It's a later start than usual because of repair work on the Chicago lock by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The lifts give recreational access to the lake and the harbors. Each bridge lift takes an average of eight to 12 minutes. The downtown lifts usually happen around noon.
