Disconnect from technology during Screen-free Week

May 2, 2012 (CHICAGO)

The Campaign for a Commercial-free Childhood is sponsoring 'Screen-free Week.' Families are encouraged to go out without watching TV, using the computer or playing video games, at least for the week.

Experts have linked excessive technology use in children to obesity, irregular sleep and behavioral problems.

Strategies to limit use include: keeping TVs and computers out of bedrooms and not eating in front of the screen. Parents can lead by example by offering other fun family activities to choose from, especially those that involve exercise.
