The family of 36-year-old Chris Strobel said his body was found by police along the Illinois River in La Salle County.
Strobel, a married father of two, hadn't been seen since early last Saturday morning when he left a bar in downtown Ottawa.
It is not clear how Strobel wound up in the river.
Chris Strobel's family issued a statement about their loved one's death Sunday.
"Christopher was a remarkable son, husband and father who will be missed by everyone who knew him. Our gratitude especially goes out to the Ottawa Police Department and the Ottawa Rescue Squad who both did a remarkable job in bringing Chris home," the statement by Rick Strobel read. "The family feels there are still questions to be answered and we hope local investigators, through their continued investigation, will be able to answer them."
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday in Will County.
