Auction raises money for kids with Batten disease

May 6, 2012 (PALATINE, Ill.)

Batten disease is a genetic disorder that strikes at an early age. At least five Chicago-area children are living with the illness, which often is misdiagnosed as epilepsy and proves fatal between ages 8 and 12.

Bridget Kennicott experienced her first symptoms at 3 years old. She was diagnosed at age 4, and is now 7 years old.

Among the items sold at the auction Saturday were paintings created by the brothers and sisters of kids battling Batten disease.

ABC7's Ben Bradley had the honor of helping to raise money Saturday night at the event in Palatine.
