Groups recommend screening for lung cancer

But the guidelines only recommend annual scans for older current smokers or former heavy smokers between ages of 55 to 74.

The recommended screening involves a low-dose CT scan, a 3-dimensional x-ray to look for lung cancer.

If detected early enough, lung cancer can be treated and survival chances improved.
