Chicago police shut down South Side drug market

<div class="meta image-caption"><div class="origin-logo origin-image "><span></span></div><span class="caption-text">Steven Willis, 23, of the 6700 block of South Jeffery Blvd. Chicago Police have made 12 arrests in connection with an alleged South Side drug market in the area of the 7900 blocks of South Bennett and Yates, extending into the suburbs southeast of Chicago. Police made the announcement in a press release Thursday, May 24, 2012. Officers executed search warrants which resulted in the seizure of approximately 70,000 grams of marijuana, approximately &#36;10,000 worth of crack cocaine, heroin, and illegal narcotic funds, according to the release. Also recovered were two semi-automatic handguns and five vehicles. Police say the market was controlled by the Gangster Disciples street gang.</span></div>
