Study: Obesity alone won't cause heart disease

People usually associate obesity with a higher risk for heart problems. But a new study finds that's not the case.

British researchers say the people really at risk are the ones who have obesity in combination with other metabolic health risk factors. That includes high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high cholesterol and inflammation in the body.

Scientists reporting in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism say people with good metabolic health are not at risk for future heart disease even if they are obese.
