Aaron Barnes, 19, of Chicago, is charged with first degree murder.
The shooting happened on November 5, 2011. Cortez Champion, Shawn Russell and his girlfriend Chanda Thompson were killed. All were 21 years old.
Gunfire broke out as they sat in a car outside A Piece of Cake Bakery at 87th and King Drive. The three had just picked up a birthday cake for Thompson's 2-year-old daughter.
