He issued a statement on his web site honoring the country's fallen heroes. It reads: "For the first time in many years, I will not be attending the Memorial Day parade in Arlington Heights to show my appreciation and respect for our soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for this great country.
"Since experiencing a stroke in January, I am constantly reminded of the importance of family, friends and all those who make a difference in our lives; and of how important it is to demonstrate that we are grateful for those who give of themselves."
