Ind. teenager gets visa in time for graduation speech

A small crowd welcomed Elizabeth Olivas Thursday night as her flight arrived in Indianapolis.

She's the salutatorian of her class in Frankfort, Indiana.

Olivas was born in Mexico but has lived in the U.S. since the age of four. The law required that she return to Mexico within six months of her 18th birthday to get a visa or green card. But she missed that deadline by a day and had to stay in Mexico until the matter could be resolved.

"I just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible but I had to continue to wait. But it was worth it because in the end I'm good and I can continue to pursue my dreams," Olivas said.

As salutatorian, Olivas will speak during Friday's commencement ceremony.
