Emanuel praises graduating class for its success

June 10, 2012 (CHICAGO)

The mayor was the keynote speaker for Golder College Prep.

It's a charter school on West Superior but the ceremony took place at the Field Museum.

The school is primarily minority with 83 percent of its students Hispanic and 11 percent African American.

This year and last year, the school's seniors had a 100 percent acceptance rate at four-year colleges.

The mayor said this is a historic school year for the city.

"I'm proud to report that for the first time on record the Chicago public schools will exceed a 60 percent graduation rate for its students," Emanuel said. "It's a higher percentage of CPS students will also enroll in college next year than any year on record."
