Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced Tuesday that a new library at the Back of the Yards High School will also serve as a Chicago Public Library.

The new library will be the first in a pilot project to use joint resources of both CPS and CPL. The facility will offer teen-focused collections for students and operate as a public library for community residents.

"The actual library in the high school will also be the community library, serving both functions simultaneously rather than being siloed-- a library over here, a high school over there. We're going to make a single investment to serve both purposes," Mayor Emanuel said.

The new Back Of The Yards High School will open for the 2013 - 2014 school year with a separate entrance for the library.
