Father's love crucial in child development

Just in time for Father's Day coming up Sunday, a new study shows a father's love and acceptance is a crucial factor in the development of well-adjusted children.

Researchers followed 325 families looking at 11- to 14-year-olds in two-parent homes.

In the study, the children of fathers who passed down love and acceptance while balancing a sense of accountability and autonomy were significantly more likely to do better in school and to have lower levels of delinquency.

The study is published in the Journal of Early Adolescence.
