New EMS bus could improve fire department response

The Chicago Fire Department has a new tool to help save lives.

A new, custom-built EMS bus will now let paramedics treat and transport 13 patients and carry an on-board staff of four paramedics.

The bus can take the place of up to 10 ambulances that would normally be used for such transport from a single event.

The bus also has an EKG system for better cardiac care.

The bus was paid for by a grant from the Department of Homeland Security.
