According to the Dept. of Defense, Spc. Trevor A. Pinnick, of Lawrenceville, Ill., died Tuesday near Panjwa 'I, Kandahar, Afghanistan, and Sgt. Joseph M. Lilly, of Flint Mich., died June 14, in a medical treatment facility at Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when they were attacked by an enemy improvised explosive device. They were assigned to the 18th Engineer Company, 1st Battalion, 37th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.
According to unit records, Spc. Pinnick entered the Army in August 2010 and reported to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., for basic training. He deployed with his unit to Afghanistan in April. This was his first deployment.
Spc. Pinnick has received the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
Pinnick was based at the Lewis-McChord joint base in Washington state.
