Deer stops traffic in River North, closes Ohio feeder ramp

June 19, 2012 (CHICAGO)

Animal Care and Control was called in and a tranquilizer was used to knock the deer out and move it to a safer place. The incident shut down the Ohio St. and Ontario feeder ramps for about 15 minutes. IDOT was able to reopen the ramps just before 3:30 p.m.

"I'm from the suburbs and there [are] deer there -- but not in the city," Greg Ortega said.

In another incident on the city's North Side, a deer was spotted near Armitage and Halsted. Sightings have been becoming more common in Lincoln Park, and officials have asked residents not to feed the deer.
