A march marking Juneteenth, the observance of African-American freedom, featured a rally Tuesday against what organizers call the restrictive effect of street violence.

The march to the plaza of the Thompson Center included groups of women wearing shackles to illustrate how violence holds back their communities.

Protesters called on city and state government to help implement what they call "sustainable, community-based solutions" to violence instead of current police strategies.
