This Saturday, June 23, anyone can turn in a weapon, no questions asked. In exchange, a $100 pre-paid debt card will be issued.
This event will take place at 23 designated churches across Chicago.
Police superintendent Garry McCarthy joined ABC7 in the studio early Thursday morning to talk about ways police are working to reduce violence.
"Besides getting guns off the street, we're building it from the beat officer up, which is a sea change in the way that we do business in policing here," said McCarthy.
Last weekend, five people were shot to death and 30 others were wounded in gun violence across the city.
