CPD: 49 arrests made in drug busts across city

June 24, 2012 (CHICAGO)

According to authorities, drug markets in the Wentworth, Englewood, and Harrison police districts were dismantled, 49 arrests were made and contraband was seized, including a firearm used to commit an aggravated assault against a Chicago police officer.

One of those arrested was Pierre Blakney, who is charged with aggravated assault to police officer, armed violence, unlawful use of weapon by a felon, and manufacture and delivery of heroin.

"Once we take these territories away from the bad guys, we're not going to give them back. We're going to hold on to them. We're going to clean them up. This is the wrap around services that the mayor is constantly pushing out here, and we're going to use our elected officials, our community and our businesses to assist us in preventing these places from regressing to the conditions that they were in before," said Chicago Police Department Supt. Garry McCarthy.

Chicago police say they continue to investigate the criminal organizations responsible for the drug operations and to seek outstanding targets identified throughout the course of the investigations.
