Some of David Levy's suggestions:
- Look for foods that do not include by-products, meat or bone meal, or chemically preserved foods.
- Look for foods that have meat proteins in the first five ingredients
- Make sure the food offers ingredients that you would eat yourself
- Do not use foods that contain BHA/BHT
- Offer good treats, do not buy low quality treats if you are feeding high quality foods
- Give them fresh water throughout the day
- And, do not leave your pet in the car
Levy suggests that you read the ingredients of the food you choose and if you do not know what something is ask. Levy also suggests that you provide your pet with a lot of exercise opportunities

David Levy has been a dog lover all of his life. In 1997, David Levy founded Zeus & Company. Shortly after forming Zeus & Company, Levy opened a pet supply store in Waukegan, Illinois. Operating a retail establishment provided Levy with a unique and valuable introduction into the pet supply industry. Prior to owning the pet supply store, Levy was a police officer with the Cook County Sheriff Department. While a police officer, Levy developed working relationships with the canine units of many local police departments. Several of those relationships are still strong today, and Zeus & Company delivers the dog food to keep police dogs in top shape. David attended the University of Illinois at Chicago. He shares his time between Chicago and Minnesota.
