Food truck ordinance to be introduced

June 25, 2012 (CHICAGO)

Monday afternoon food truck owners met at City Hall to look at the ordinance.

Currently, they are only allowed to sell food cooked and packaged in a regular kitchen.

Most of the concern regarding the new ordinance surrounds the condition that no food truck can operate within 200 feet of a brick and mortar restaurant.

The mayor's office said the ordinance would allow the food truck industry to thrive while protecting traditional restaurants.
