CPS could get rid of mandatory 10-day suspensions

Chicago Public Schools is hoping to change its student code of conduct.

Officials want to eliminate mandatory 10-day, out-of-school suspensions for even the most serious cases. Instead, principals would also have the option to assign in-school suspensions to students.

Chicago's school board is expected to vote on the proposed changes Wednesday.

Students and community groups have been demanding a different discipline system.

CPS CEO Jean-Claude Brizard visited ABC7 Monday to discuss the proposed changes.
