Study released on harmful effects of spanking kids

Canadian researchers report in the journal Pediatrics that people who were hit or spanked as children face higher odds of mental ailments as adults. Those issues include mood and anxiety disorders and problems with alcohol and drug abuse.

More than 600 U.S. adults were surveyed for the study.

Previous research has shown that children who were physically abused as youngsters suffer from more mental disturbances as adults and are more likely to engage in aggressive behavior than kids who were not hit.
