Zoo animals find ways to keep cool in heat

July 7, 2012 (BROOKFIELD, Ill.)

Zoo officials say the African animals are not impacted as much as those from the Arctic might be.

But they still are able to get inside and away from the intense heat.

As for the polar bears, they can get into the air conditioning or dive into some chilly water for a swim.

"Of course we always provide lots of shade and water for our animals at all times," said Joan Daniels of the Brookfield Zoo. "And some animals enjoy being hosed down with cold water. We'll get our big fire hoses out and actually wet them down with the cold water."
