911 calls from Ind. drowning released
July 12, 2012 For the first time the public is hearing the 911 call made after a Portage, Ind., boy disappeared in Lake Michigan.
Corey McFry was swimming with friends Sunday evening at the Ogden Dunes. He either slipped or was swept away by 3 to 5 foot waves.
Caller: "I'm at Portage Beach and some kid got sucked into a wave.
Dispatcher: Do you know approximately how far out he was?
Caller: The water was almost over our heads but then because the waves were so bad, they pulled him under. … And he's been sucked out farther."
After an intensive search a volunteer with the Coast Guard auxiliary found McFry's body early Tuesday morning.
Funeral arrangements are still being made.
