Some United Airlines passengers are finally back on U.S. soil after trying for days to get from Shanghai to the U.S.

The passengers were supposed to leave last Wednesday for Newark but ended up stranded for three days.

Their delay began with an aircraft mechanical problem. The plane was not fixed until Friday. But they still couldn't leave because of a boarding issue.

Passengers stayed in hotels but all the delays caused tempers to flare.

It turned violent between passengers and ground crews in shanghai after some luggage was dumped off the carousels.

The passengers arrived in Newark on Sunday.

The airline says passengers will get refunds and $1,000 in vouchers toward future travel.
